At the risk of sounding heretical I will dare to say this.
I have found that one of the most important spiritual disciplines is rest.
Like all disciplines life is incomplete without the others, but if you find that when you try to pray or study you inevitably fall asleep, then your body is probably less fit to exhibit the finer effects that the other disciplines work to bring out in us as well.
Nap and foster habits of rest, like the Bible prescribes, and then when your body’s more basic needs are met, it will be far easier to be patient, loving, generous and kind, for when your own health is provided for then it is more natural for it to flow over to others.
