I get frustrated when I read that we must hate our family or we cannot be Jesus’ disciple (Lk 14:26). I start to doubt Jesus when he says, ask for anything and I’ll give it to you (Jn 14:14). I get peeved when Jesus says more will be given to those who have, and for those who have nothing even that will be taken away (Lk 19:26). Was Christ a fanatical republican when it came to karma taxes?
I doubt he was democrat or republican. but on my best days I believe he was God. And the fact that i don’t understand why he says certain things should not peeve me, but instead should show me the levels of intimacy I have yet to grow into with him when I will someday understand the whys.
